6 things you should not do before sleeping. Why?

Getting enough sleep is an absolute necessity if we are to be our best selves. Individuals who suffer from sleep deficiencies are more likely to suffer from health issues, such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity, increased mortality, cancer, and reduced quality of life.

Here’s some quick list on what you should not do before bed time to have a good sound sleep:

  • Bringing your electronic gadget with you. Studies show that about 71% of the respondents sleep with their smart phone in their hand. The devices are likely to cause both mental and physical stimulation that affect your state of mind in entering deep sleep.
  • Avoid having caffeine. This is a common advice since coffee promotes the blocking of sleep-inducing chemicals in the brain while increase adrenaline production. It takes about 15 minutes for the effect of caffeine to kick into your body. What’s more, be prepared that the effect of alertness will last for several hours.
  • Drop the fatty foods. The reason is clear. Eating fatty food decreases the time you will engage in deep sleep. Even if you have a sufficient 8 hours of sleep, you might not feel as recharged too. If you are really hungry at night, we suggest you to try whole grains and protein food such as bread.
  • Why work in bed? The bedroom should be reserve for sleep and rest. If you are to work in your bed, your brain tends to associate the bedroom with work. The end result, you will have a hard time falling asleep.
  • Go easy on alcohol. While some may advise you to drink alcohol before sleep, research have also shown that alcohol can be detrimental to your sleep quality late into the night.
  • Keep distressing shows away before bed. Well, most of us are addicted to drama show and tend to watch television before the night. Your brain might be power up thinking of the next episode. So our advice, steer clear of the addictive drama before bed.

It is always about arranging your night routine and avoiding stressful and stimulating activities that make it hard to fall and stay asleep. Remember that having a good sleep at night reflects our energy and mood in the following day.
