Tips on Maintaining Fabric Sofas
How To Care For Your Fabric Sofa
Fabric sofas are a popular choice for their comfort (in Singapore’s hot and humid weather) and the myriad of options they offer in terms of style and colour.
At Soho Living, we are all about helping you get your perfect fabric sofa—the one with the right depth, of the right size, with right fabric, and in right colour to suit your needs and your space. But getting the perfect sofa is only the start.
Regular care is key to keeping your furniture looking and working like new. The good news is maintenance doesn’t have to be complicated with these simple care tips:
Clean
Dust and dirt cause upholstery to wear faster. Regular vacuuming is the best protection for your furniture. Alternatively, pass a lint roller over the seats to pick up debris.
Act
Always attend to spills immediately. Gently blot (never rub) the stained area with a damp, clean folded towel. Prompt attention to spills keeps stains from being absorbed into upholstery fibres.
Move
Don’t choose one place to sit in all the time. Try to shift so your preferred spot does not sag and attract more dirt than other areas. If you have removable cushions, flip, rotate and fluff them from time to time to ensure even wear.
Ventilate
Airborne pollutants such as those in cooking fumes and cigarette smoke can harm fabrics. Keep the space properly ventilated. This also keeps your sofa from absorbing and holding odours.
Shade
All coloured fabrics are prone to fading over time. To maintain the vibrancy and freshness of colours, we recommend you position the sofa where it won’t be exposed to direct strong sunlight.
